Uglies
My Rating: *****
The Uglies series is a phenomenal science fiction novel series which will wake up your senses. Experience the excitement of living in a futuristic city where everything is managed for you. Hover boards, hover jackets, talking rooms, and even the most bizarre thing that anyone could ever imagine: surgeries to re-make a person to be the most perfect of human beings. Tally Youngblood could not wait to get the surgery and transfrom from an ugly to a pretty, like everyone else she knew turned 16 in her city. Until one day she figured that those surgeries were a way of the government to control the brains of the community. The become bubbly, happy people who are too dumb to feel actual life excitements. She even felt some feelings towards her friend who fought with her til the end, David.
This first novel in the series is a knockout. Westerfeld sure knows how to play with the readers' minds. The adventure of Tally Youngblood and friends is a thrilling tale in the hope to safe the whole city from those controlling brain surgeries.
Pretties
My Rating: ****
The second book, Pretties, is such an incredible sequel to the first book, Uglies. It creates tension, and maximum excitement. The readers will be shocked to find that Tally Youngblood herself, had turned into a pretty. She felt how bubbly and fun she became, and most of all, she got to live in the most fantastic neighborhood in the whole city. Parties all night long, and everything else that she could think of. Tally enjoyed the popularity she was receiving, and in this seri she actually found a boyfriend. The story is spiced up with romance, and with Tally being confused as she sees David again. Everything seemed better than ever, until she sensed that everything was actually very wrong. Tally once again finds herself in a difficult society.
Specials
My Rating: ****
Tally was unleashed into another world in the future. From a pretty, she was then transformed into a special. The other Specials know that Tally has amazing skills and the mind that it takes to be a special. What exactly is a Special? Well they are still considered humans, only frighteningly beautiful, dangerously strong, and breathtakingly fast. Their jobs is to make sure everything goes wrong through out the city. If anything goes wrong, they would do anything to kill and to rule the community.
This fighting machine Tally became, was heartless. Everything seemed much more complicated. Tally loved how it felt to be a Special. Tally's world will never be the same.
The Uglies series end here. The first book offers the most thrilling reading experience, but the last 2 books are still must reads.
